Shorter piston and gas tube meaning a different gas port location on the barrel.

I don't know if it is a function of rigidity and shorter length, but an AMD-65 with the original barrel is the most accurate ak i have shot.

Journal locations of the sight, gas block, etc.    I used a couple of AMD kits a while back to build full size rifles because I have no love for the 65 but the kits are still kinda low and usually are matching.

Usually its a difference in barrel, replace the gas piston, and the upper handguard along with the rear trunnion.
