I felt that the 30-cal bore snake doesn't have as much tension as the 22-cal bore snake when pulled through.   Thinking about upgrading to a 338cal bore snake, will that get stuck in a 30-cal?
The difference is only 0.038 or less than 1mm.

The 30-cal BTW works great in 7mm cal rifles.

Whether it'll get stuck or not I guess would depend on how stiff the bristles are and whether you could muscle it through or not. Seems like a bad idea though. I have seen bore snakes advertised as "for .30 - .32 calibers", maybe try one of those first?

It might make it thru, but if it gets stuck whatever you do, do not try to pull it back or it will just get stuck worse as the bristles try to turn around.

The thing that scared me today was the 22 cal boresnake, I haven't used one for years and it was really tight.
The 30-cal just zipped through with much less tension.

What 30 cal is it?  If it's chambered for x39 those aren't .308 diameter bore they are .310 so it might be looser, but should still work fine.

Could always go old school and use a rod and jag.

My .30 snake pulls through pretty easy on my .300blk. I don't worry about it, bore looks fine after.

I use the 8mm (32 cal) boresnake in my 30 cal, and especially 31 caliber bores.
