Buy a Magwell block and mount it in a vice. Buy a rail block or upper receiver block as well for installing barrels.

If I don’t strip the gun down completely, I’ll stick it on a mag well block in my bench vise.
I also have a Tipton gun vise, but I use it mostly for non-ARs |

One cheap way to go if you have a table vise, just get an AR mag, insert and clamp it in the vise.

I use one of these. I separate uppers from lowers. The Tipton works well without having to remove your optics. Comes in handy for many long guns. Worth the money, IMO.
