Got a brand new AR a week ago. First thing I did was get out the manual, break it down and totally degrease it using Quick Scrub III and then put a film of FP-10 on everything.
Today I took it to the range and put some 200 rounds through it; it functioned flawlessly. When I got home I broke it down and was amazed at how damn filthy it was (shooting xm193).
Using FP-10 I swabed the bolt, bolt carrier, cam pin, firing pin, extractor, the bore and chamber and ran a bore-snake up the barrel, taking time to wipe as much black crap off as I could, recoated it with a thin film of the FP-10, and slapped it all back together then wiped down the exterior with a thin film of FP-10.
Is this adequate? I was tempted to take the Quick Scrub III to it all again and then re-lubing it but I'm thinking that would be over-kill.
Also I'm assuming that once I do this a few times the process will shorten.
