I just picked up some Shooter's Choice bore cleaner. I cleaned my bore quickly tonight to catch the New York Yankees playoff game plus I ran out of patches. I'm going to re-clean tomorrow. How do you prep the room you are in when you clean your rifle. I had a window open but still smell fumes. Pretty soon it will be real cold here in NY. Any ideas?

Do it in the basement, with the windows closed. Its a lot of fun

I just built a work bench and cleaning area in my basement so I don't make such a mess in the kitchen. I plan on using fans in the winter and using more health frendly cleaners loke Mpro7 and Mil-Comm MC-25. For copper cutting I use Butches bore cleaner but it stinks bad.

I have a small building that I use to do my reloading and gun cleaning...when I can make it through the stacks of STUFF to the bench surface...

If you live in an apartment or small home sit in the doorway and clean it...the fumes go out and the neighbors stay away....

edit: to make my post sound less intrusive.

Most of my cleaning is done in the gun room. But I use FP-10 CLP 99.9% of the time so vapors is not an issue for me.When I use a solvent its Hoppe's #9 and the smell has never bothered me in the 25+ years Ive been using it.Oh the smell of #9 and FP-10 combined make my gun room smell like a gun room.
The Sweet's 7.62 is a bit strong but no problems there either. But I only use the stuff a couple times a year max.

I clear cosmoline rifles outside with brake cleaner, otherwise I clean them in the gun room. Not much fresh air though
