I'm new to AR's, and for some reason I have no idea how to use the chamber brush.  I stick it through the upper reciever and into where the locking lug area is, and when I stick it in, it goes in easy, but takes a lot of force to pull out.  How far is it supposed to go in, and will it come out easier with use or what?  What is the wider silver brush part for?

Put it in (from the reciever end obviously) far enough that the stainless brush section at the rear is inside the locking lug area.  Using a GI cleaning rod, or any with a t-handle portion, give it a couple of twists.  Its meant to take the carbon build up out of the locking lug area of the barrel extension, as well as the brush portion cleaning your chamber.

I've figgured out that much, but how come it's so hard to pull out?

Try twisting it CW as you pull it out.

Obviously, you need a cleaning rod that is not freewheeling.

The USGI will work; you just configure it differently than when using it to clean the bore.

A traditional pistol type rod with a loop end for the handle will also work nicely, just make sure the rod and brush threads are the same.
