Just picked up a new Bushmaster Shorty, and out-of-the-box it has various spots of oil on the buttstock.

What's the best way to clean the stock up so it doesn't look so...well..spotted with oil?  Should I just wipe the whole thing down with some CLP to get it to look uniform (though then I have an oily buttstock...).

Thanks for any advice.

It'll wipe off and as you stated be a more consistent color, CLP is fine to use and when wiped throughly will not be overly slick.

Thanks, I figured that was the course of action, but wanted to verify. :)

I wiped it down lightly with FP-10 and then used a clean black cloth on it, and it looks great now.

I used Armorall (non shiny version). Works great.
