My RRA AR-15 came with two sling swivels in front of the handguards (one underneath, and one on the side). How should I remove the rivet securing the sling swivel that I would like to get rid of?

I’ve tried both a small screwdriver and some needle-nose pliers to try and pry the rim of the rivet ends apart from each other. All I’m getting is slightly bent rims.

File off the peened end of the rivet then drive the rivet out with a pin punch.

I used a drill and a normal drill bit about the same size or slightly larger than the rivet.  Took about 10 seconds and I was done.  Just be careful not to drill past the edge of the rivet or you will have to refinish the edge of the hole.
