are these things reverse threaded ?  I'm trying to remove mine, and I cannot get the darn thing off !!!  any help would be appreciated.  I assume all I have to do is spin it off right ?

No, they are not reverse threads.

What brand is it, and what tool are you using? Another question...I assume you removed the gas tube already?

putting the upper in the freezer has worked
Also a heat gun to loosen up some of the loctite that may have been used
Are you using a action block and a vise or trying to hold it between your legs?

strap wrenches+vice...and lots of muscle might be required also
