I do alot of threading and re-profiling of barrels, i use carbide inserts on my cutting tools. If you are just going to do one or two barrels a properly ground and honed high speed steel threading tool will work fine. I have not done a rockwell test on a barrel ( i do have the equipment to do it) i think it's about the mid to high 30's RC (not very hard) HTH PATRIOT ARMORY 07 FFL
