A magazine fed bolt gun, built from an AR, with no gas system.
Always wanted to try it, and now I like it. Standard AR upper and lower receiver, just did a little fitting to make everything fit just right.
The bolt carrier was sleeved to fit perfect in the upper receiver, and the receiver extension was slightly enlarged to allow the sleeved bolt to fit. This bolt locks up with NO play. (you know how with the bolt closed you can wiggle the carrier around – not with this)
The bolt carrier has an extension screwed into the back for the handle to work the action. It’s held closed by detent placed in the buffer detent hole, so it won’t jar loose easily.
Left handed? Loosen the extension to the other side and it’s a left handed rifle.
Disassembly is done by unscrewing the handle and unscrewing the bolt extension via an allen key from the back of the receiver extension.
Cleaning would definitely be easier with an Otis type kit though, but I shouldn’t have to clean it too often, as there is no gas gunk build up.
I plan on having a match rifle built up like this next. The stock is also custom built, and will be offered (without the cut for the lever) for match rifles and will include brass weights for balance.
