I have 2 pre-ban AR-15 rifles now and was considering building one of the lowers into a short-barreled rifle.  Is there a legal way to do this?  Can I register one of the lowers as an SBR?  Or do I need to keep them as they are.  The build would be for appearance only.  I'm very happy with my guns now and want to stay legal but would like a more agressive look.  Any ideas would be great.  Thanks.

Be sure SC is SBR state first--

ATF 5320.1, known as a Form-1

[url]http://www.titleii.com/pdf/NewF1.pdf[/url]

Directions are attached to the form, fill out on-line, print 2 front, flip, print 2 rear.  Print some extras while there, in case your first set gets damaged, lost.....

Prints, pics, $200

Need 1 of these:

i have the same in mind for a 9mm RRA upper for a pre ban lower i have.

16 in, 1in10 twist, chrome moly wilson barrel, upper with pinned and soldered bird cage.
i want 11in or so. that way with the suppresor it won't be tooooo long.

is 11in a good length for 1 in 10 twist 9mm barrel?

or will it shoot like a shot gun?
i just want it to shoot within 4 or 5 inches at 100 yds maybe or atleast that good at 50yds???

what do guys think??? i never heard anything about cutting down a 9mm AR barrel just the 5.56 ones.

doesn't "me223" cut them down?

*** all mods to be done after ATF signs off on the app of course :)

Why you worried about "pin and soldered" if it is a "pre-ban" SBR? Spin it on and forget it...[/blue]

Anything up to 10" is fine, most pistol barrels are 4-5"..... MP5 is 8.5", Colt 635 and 639 are 10", Uzi is 10.25".[/blue]

You can simply take the 9mm and chop it with a chop saw for all practical purposes, it is not gas operated like the 223/556.[/blue]

Ahh great news!

I've been looking at the Colt 9mm SMG uppers. Barrels are 10in.

I will get mine cut to that length, recrowned, and threaded.

New birdcage will be from Gemtech with the QD lug mod!

SBR7_11 thanks for your insight!
