I finally got to start breaking in the barrel on my first build, and it makes this rather annoying "SPROINGGG" sound after every shot when the bolt is closing.  This is my first AR, so I'm not familiar with how they are supposed to sound.  It's an RRA upper and lower.

That is the sound of a very happy AR, perfectly normal.  I think of it as Stoner's built-in mag change indicator... [;)]

With Army earplugs and my first M16, I swear the buffer spring was the only thing I could hear when firing.

I can tell you my M4 with brake is much different.

It sounds like an enthusiastic session with a very vigorous woman on a very old bed with the world's noisiest springs.   It's part of the experience, so enjoy it!

Some are sproingier than others.    My main rifle is virtually silent in that respect.

Well, if you want quiet, you could always dish out the $129 for the pneumatic recoil buffer! [;)]

Has anyone ever dipped the recoil spring in that rubbery dip coating used for tool handles?
That should quiet a noisy spring down.

I have had good results with heavy moly grease, but it oozes out around the bolt carrier when firing, and makes clean-up more of a hassle.

Definitely something NOT to use in a sand-storm!

Everyone is right......its a happy AR, but I think Darkstar said it best.  Its a built in Mag Change Indicator (MCI)

 I personally love that SproOoOing.

My 870 makes this really annoying "CHA-CHUNK" noise when I shoot it.  Any solutions???

I get that S-p-r-o-i-n-g-g-g-g noise in the standard size rifle but not with my carbine. Maybe the shorter buffer spring has something to do with it.

Put some oil on the spring and it will quiet down a little as iot reduces the friction in the tube.

You could always try puting the spring in one leg of your girl friend's, your wife's, or just your pantyhose.  Who knows it might just work.
