Hi
Trying to come up with
The best way to 50 yd zero or close
For a 0-300 yd effective 556 round

My thought is
If I get a tight zero at 25 yds
And if on a .25 moa adjustment dot
Adjust down 18 clicks
To put my zero appx 1.5” low at 25 yds
This should equate to a 50 yd zero and
Be easily good to 300 yds w a drop of
Appx 12”, hold center face hit center mass

Or if like an aimpoint w .50” adjustments
Or 9 clicks down
3x adjustments at 25 yds right ?

Make sense? Flaws? Considerations ?

Thnx in advance for the responses !
Drj

Use this:

http://www.shooterscalculator.com/ballistic-trajectory-chart.php

Or go download Strelok on your phone.

If you don't have a chronograph, borrow one. If you can't borrow one, then go look up the estimated fps and bc for whatever rounds you're shooting.

Plug those numbers into whichever calculator you're using (I personally like strelok because I can more easily take it to the range with me and save data), and that will get you the information you want.

For example: I have a 13.8" barrel (pinned) on my AR, so it kicks out wolf/brownbear 62gr HP/SP ammo at 2750fps with approximately a 0.30 BC.

So I went with a 170yd zero. Why? Because this puts me 0.75in low at 25, 1.10in high at 100, and 11.06in low at 300yds. I've also used a 25/300yd zero, as well as a 50/200yd, and a dead on 100yd zero. Personally strongly disliked 50/200 and 100yd for my type of shooting, and while I liked the 25/300 it does put you quite high at most shooting distances.

Due to not only my ammo choice but my barrel length, my results are going to be notably different from yours, and plenty of other people's

Or just use a 25/300 or 50/200 zero and call it good.

Maybe you should just zero it at the range you want it zero'ed...

Why are you making this harder than it needs to be?

What cartridge are you using? For 5.56 (55, or 62 gr) from a carbine length barrel that makes sense but it will be very different for slower .223 loads or 75 gr BTHP.

I usually shoot 55 gr America eagle federal
16” barrel in jersey
Not looking for precision
Just a simple formula for a combat type  zero

Thnx guys!

Go read this thread through this thread.

In short though:

Go zero at 50m

Xm193 or .223 is an important distinction to make because the slower American Eagle 55 gr will probably shoot around 2800 fps and XM193 is probably closer to 3050 or so fps.

There is a very detailed thread STICKIED ad the top of the Optics subforum.  You should start there:

https://www.ar15.com/forums/AR-15/100m-150m-200m-250m-and-300m-Zero-Comparisons-and-Optic-Reticle-Comparisons/18-613947/

Sounds like what you're looking for is a 200m or 250m zero.  Here are some helpful images from that thread, including a 100m zero for reference.

Using a ballistic program like Strelok or something similar will help you figure out the best option for you.  I've seen a lot of 50/200 yard zeros or a 36/300 yard zero used as well.  Whether you use yards, meters, and the distance you set your zero will mostly depend on personal preference and intended use.  Good luck!
