I need to change the front sight post for a longer one.  My question is, if when I unscrew the post will the detent and detent spring fly off into the atmosphere never to be seen again, and if so, do any of you with more experience than I have, use a method to prevent this from happening?
Thanks

what are you using to remove the FSP?

I don't know if detent & spring are going fly fly off into the atmosphere but if you have front sight adjustment toolit's easy to cover the fsp area with one and while unscrewing the fsp with the other

Just hold the detent down with a small blade and use the tip of a round to rotate the post. The detent is under a small bit of spring pressure.

Thanks for the information both of you. I have a front sight adjustment tool so I will use that.  It's also good to know that spring is not under a lot of pressure.
This is a great site. People respond to answer questions that may seem frivolous, but in doing so give a lot of help to those who are relatively new to the AR15.

You're welcome. We all still have many questions.
