In addition to that, once I get my EOtech setup I will have the handle pulled off and hence my rear sights gone.  So I will get some folding rears.

I am curious though, what is the pro's con's to being able to co-witness the front sight with the EOtech sight?

Is it preferable to replace the stanadard gas block with one with a rail so I can put on folding front sight ?  That way I would just target through the Optic?  Is this ok?  Do you loose accuracy/precision?  I know the field of view would be better, but what else?

You do not want to replace the front sight base with a rail gas block so you can add a flip up front.

The Red dot like EOTech is design to have the front post there so if your optic fails you can still use the optic window as a big ghost ring.  I have had guys shooting with me practice this method out to 15 yrds with excellent result.  besides, focus on the target not your front sight, the front sight will just disappear.

It is important to co-witness as is important as you make it.  for a range rifle, it is not necessary, but for a life or death working carbine, you might want to make sure co-witness is part of your setup.  anything can break and if you are within 25yds, transition, if you are beyond that range... flip up your BUIS and go at it.

Having the EOTech mounted right on the flattop is not a big deal at all. Some people do like to have it mounted higher to facilitate easier heads-up shooting, but I haven't had a problem with mine directly on the rail.

If you get a riser for the EOTech, the irons will be lower in the window.
