Yeah, it is up there, but I've been looking at them or maybe a Nightforce, which is in the same ballpark - if not higher.

We sell the NF and IOR I like both very much prefer Nightforce for most applications.

Mike, can you elaborate on exactly what you like better about the NF's? For this AR10, I originally had some sticker shock on the NF prices, and started looking at the IOR's as a less expensive alternative. The pricing of the new 35mm stuff is right up there though; however, I'm not sure I really need one of the new ones.

Hi WS6_Keith,
For and AR10 I’m torn. I like the NF NPR2 reticle more then the IOR MP8 because it is in MOA and the lines are thinner. The turrets on both are very nice I prefer the NF turrets on the full size NF but on the NF 2.5-10x24mm I feel they are little small and the NF 2.5-10x24mm do not have elevation line to let you know what revolution you are on. This in not a big deal when you are using an NPR2 ret. because you can use the 2moa lines as holdovers and use the turret for fine-tuning. For example I zero my rifle at 100yds and it 200yds it is 2.25 inch low I just use the line blow and aim a little high or if I have time I adjust for it with the turret. They are both very strong and well made. The new IOR 2-12x32 w/ the 35mm tube is outstanding. I feel Nightforce as better glass but there are others out there that fell the other way. I feel once you get to a certain level of glass and quality it is hard to notice the difference. Is the light transmission through the NF NXS 5.5-22x56 on 30mm tube about even with the IOR 6-24x50 on 35mm tube? I guess the theory is better light transmission through the bigger tube, right?

No...the bigger tube only gets you more elevation/windage adjustment. A larger objective lens on a scope will get you better light *gathering* because of the bigger lens, but actual light transmission is a product of the lens/coatings, and won't be effected by the lens size or the tube size. It's quite possible for scope A to look brighter than Scope B due to the combination of all of these things, but if you just pop the lenses out and test them for actual light transmission, the size of the lens won't make any difference. If you look at the different scope makers, they claim different % of light transmission on their lenses, but don't differentiate that by lens/tube/objective size. Well, that's how I understand it, anyway.  |

There are quit a few factors when it come to light transmission the tube Bell size, quality of glass, coatings on the glass, quantity of lenses, length of scope, and tube size. The tube size will also give you more elevation also. They are very important in making the best optic out there.
