Our Specter does not look like that one. I've never seen or heard of the "DR" model, but I think that the doctor may have to prescribe one in the future.

One of the monthly gun magazines hinted that Elcan had an entirely new optic coming out soon. This was shown in a small cropped photograph, but no significant details were mentioned.

... except for the fact that the windage & elevation adjustments are still external?!?!?!  Why go through the hassle of designing a new scope only to carry over the worst feature of your old design? |

I agree with NYPatriot... if you look closely at the revolving image on that web page, +1 now that it's got ARMS throw levers now instead of thumb nuts and 1X to 4X "instantly" (what does that mean? Turn a maginification ring??), but it's still got the external hinge mount/adjuster and some odd-looking spring directly under the scope body in between the mount and the scope. I can't imagine a mount with a hinge that will not move under pressure, or loosen over time/abuse. Even with all of Elcan's effort to redsign the mounts several times, they're trying to make a purse out of a sow's ear.

Still using the age old external adjustments just doesnt make sense. The new line of Specter M145 optics eliminates this and uses the better internal style adjustments.

Not external like the Elcan where the scope is on a mount that goes up/down left/right to zero the scope. It has adjustment knobs like a scope is supposed to. |

The Specter DR is currently in preproduction with T&E units being sent to .mil types for evaluation. The sight weighs in at 590 grammes or 22oz.s, which is quite chunky compared to the ACOG.
It runs on a shortened AA battery and should enter production by the new year. Unlikely to see any commercially available until Q2 2005. The price.....depends on your volume but I would imagine retail will be 1800-2000+ a throw. Simon |

That would be the sight to have.
It looks like the lever under the sight changes power, and the knob ajusts brightness, now I wonder what the electroics are like? Battery life? I may have to upgrade when it becomes availible. |
