Let me tell you about the TriPower. I hope Trijicon is going to read this as well. My brother gave me a older model Tripower several months back. It works OK but has several issues, the smallest of which is the reticle will not get bright enough to see some targets in day light. I have heard that they had fixed some of the issues. So I decided to get a new one 2 weeks ago thinking that the problems had been worked out. I had a couple handguns that I did not need and traded one for a new Tripower from one of the local dealers at a gunshow last weekend. I have right at $450.00 into it as that was his selling price and that's what I had into the gun. That day I took the new optic to the range to see how it worked. Boy was I upset with the results. I feel I have been robbed this
problem should never have been released again!!!
Ok, so I get to the range and set up a 100yd NRA bullseye target at 50 yds. The target is under a overhang so its in the shade. I'm also under a over hang 50yds back. The target has a orange bulls eye. Suns out it's around 1pm nice day for shooting.
I pull out the manual and go over it. Install the batteries and mount it on my rifle using a LaRue High Aimpoint mount
I turn the power on and turn it all the way up and look thru the optic trying to get a sight picture. Well low and behold I cannot see the chevron on the orange bullseye target. The optic will not turn up high enough for me to see the bullseye. I say shit and walk down range and change the target out to a black bullseye. Walk back and look thru, no problem I can see the target and decide what the hell might as well shoot with it. The fact that I could not turn it up already made me decide I would never use this on one of my fighting rifles.
So now I'm ready to dial the optic in and start shooting. My irons are already centered so I always dial the optic to them and then fine tune. Well I get my screw driver out and start turning the windage screw in order to center the reticle. Well the damn thing will not move, the screw is moving but the reticle is staying in the same spot. So back and forth I go trying to get this damn thing to work. After 4 tries reticle starts to move and I get the windage set. Next is the elevation. Same damn thing no movement until I go all the way up and all the way down several times. Well it gets centered and now I'm ready to shoot. Rest of the range session went well and it holds its zero with no problem. I ran about 200 rds under it and decided to shoot another rifle so I turn off the Tripower and put the rifle away.
Well about an hour passes and I decide to do a little more shooting but at 100yds this time. Get the rifle with the Tripower and turn it on nothing! the reticle will not power up, check the batteries and they are installed correctly, check to make sure the cover is on right yes no problem there. So I take the batteries out and install a new set. Turn it on and Wow I have power I'm ready to shoot. Spend about 30 mins and go home.
Get back to the house and decide to look over the Tripower a little closer. So I turn it on and nothing the reticle will not light up. I get my digi meter and check the batteries and their dead.
So 4 batteries in under 3 hours. This sucks, no way in hell I would have blown my hard earned cash on this peace of junk. If I had know how bad is was. I could have used that gun money on a Aimpoint 3 X adapter or saved it for my TA31F or the TA44R-2 that i want so bad. Which now I'm reconcidering buying in the first place.
It gets better. That night I decide to look and see if the reticle is glowing as it should be and go into the closet with the tripower. I waited about 3 mins for my eyes to adjust which never take that long and nothing the trituim is dead.
Now I'm really pissed, this is the biggest POS I have ever had the mispleasure of buying. I have 30 dollar optics which work far far better and last far far longer on one set of batteries. I truly feel I have been ripped off.
So Monday rolls around and I call the dealer that I purchased the optic from and ask how long he had this in stock and he says 2 weeks. I just got it in he says. I tell him about the problems and ask for a store credit and he tells me to call Trijicon for a warrenty. Real nice guy huh, he is selling shit and will not correct it. So thats the last time he gets anything from me.
Now here is where I really get pissed. I called trijicon and tell them what is happening and the rep tells me to send it in. I ask when will I hear from you and he says they will call in about a week to let me know what is happeing. He says that they are coming out with a new unit in early 2006. I ask him what do you mean 2006 arent you going to fix this one? and he tells me that they will offer me some kind of deal. I ask when and what kind of deal? he says when they call me. I said why can't you tell me now? He says because that's not his job. So I take down their RA number and hang up.
So that is the Tripower! it is the biggest POS ever made anywhere on planet earth. I am going to tell everyone I know not to even buy the new one no matter what they come out with next year. They have wasted my time and wasted my money. I'm so pissed about this I will more then likely never buy another Trijicon optic again. I cannot believe that they had the balls to rerelease such a POS.
