Anyone ever tried to mount a red dot  on a shotgun to shoot crows or trap? Seems like it would work; maybe an Eotech with the 65 MOA rind and dot. What do you think?

Do it...Shotguns work well with most of the optics that you can use with both eyes open.

I put an OKO on my 11-87 with a B-Square mount. I took it Dove shooting two years ago and did horrible. It was too high to get any kind of cheek weld.

Everyone is different, it didn't work for ME.

                 Heck, give it a try.

I have used EOTECH 552's - Aimpoint M2's and DrOtic/Optima's on shotguns - works very well.

My buddy with the shotgun here has been using a Optima and loves it...

Yup, but it takes a little getting used to. Here's some pics of a few..

Do the dot sights slow you down at all?

It's hard for me to imagine anything faster than a vent rib with a bead on the end.

I agree. I do better with the scope. I don't see double with the dot like I do with the bead.

Never fired them that way, just handled them. I don't like the idea. At shotgun range a good set of ghost rings works fine for me. Its light, compact, and I don't ever lift my cheek off the stock, which is a good thing.

Good point SR. I like the control of your system also, but I still prefer the slimness of ghost rings.

Jedimaster,

My shotgun is set up just like the first photo posted by KevinB, below, except I use an EOTech rather than an Aimpoint as shown in the photo.  It's great.  A match made in heaven.

Do it.

I got to use an SST-870 last weekend.. i found that the cheek weld to sight picture was extremly natural.. made it VERY easy to aim with optics!   I gotta try it with clays now!

What are good mounting options for a red dot on a shotgun, specifically a Rem 1100?
