The BUIS on the TA01 is worthless, definitely. I'll leave the ghost-ring mount part to someone who has done it. (I prefer an ACOG with the BAC feature.)

The BUIS is completey worthless, although the BDC feature is important to get right.

the irons on the nsn model is not the only difference in the two. The bullet drop compensated (BDC) reticles are different and the nsn model comes with a flat top mount. In addition, the TAO1 generally has a full line red illumination in reduced light, the TAO1nsn models reticle generally is illuminated a pale yellow in the center only.

If you want to use the Dr Optik/Tasco Optima red dot sight as a BUIS, then you should consider the TA01 NSN. If that is not a big deal, then get a TA31 or a TA01 and call it a day......
