I'm planning on buying either TA01 or TA01NSN.  It will be used for target & possibly critters.
First question - I already picked up a TA51 mount - will the TA01 mount just like the NSN using this?
Second question - The TA01 has red illumination & is cheaper.  Does the NSN have any advantages over this that would sway you into buying it over the TA01?

Yes, Both TA01 and NSN model has two screw holes under the sight for it to be mount on the TA51

Having both TA01 and NSN here to compare with I would say yes and no.

Yes, because NSN modle has a fix back up sight.  That allow you to shoot with iron sight at closer range -  if you/re mounting it on a flat top A3 receiver.  If you were to mount TA01 on a handle of A2 receiver you can do the same, but only applicable with A2 receiver.

No, because I personaly like the full illuminated crosshair of the TA01 over the NSN (which only the center 100m, 200m, and 300m line is lite + verticle, not as noticible, and occasionally wash out when looking at a lighter backgroud since the lite acrosshair is white/light yellow) That to me is an advantage TA01 have over NSN.

If you ever wondered like I had before; "if bullet weight and/or barrel length effect the reticle bullet drop compensator and range finding stadia lines."  The answer is:

"The real issue is not the bullet weight or barrel length, but muzzle velocity, ballistic coefficient, and the distance from height above bore. The difference in trajectory from bullet to bullet or barrel to barrel is usually less then the MOA thickness of the stadia lines."

(Trijicon FAQ http://www.trijicon-inc.com/faq.cfm)

Base on that, I picked the NSN over the TA01 because I have a A3 flat top and I like to be able to use iron sight when competing with my dad at the range.  His got a TA01 mounted on a A2 handle.

my 0.02 cents
