Can a few of you throw some light on my ignorance of this issue? I'm asking because I recently bought an ELBIT Falcon and while doing a little digging, found some comments about how the falcon is a generation behind, mostly from a guy who had one years ago.

While I can accept it's not the most modern optic, and may be "heavy", as far as I know it is still the only one out there with automatic brightness adjustment. After looking through a friends Trij reflex, from a dark apt to a bright outdoors at a washed out reticle I decided that was an important issue, hence the purchase.

So what are the generations of dot sights, and how is the Falcon deficient?

Unlike night vision I know of no known agree upon generations in red dot sights. I know that within a manufacuters line they'll up-date their own sights creating generations of sights.

If I were to generalize ...

Generation 1 were passive - the old Trijion OEG and there improved Reflex.

Generation 2 - active LEDs with or without nightvision.

Generation 2+ - improved LEDs drawing much less power like Aimpoints CET in the Comp M2.

Generation 3 - the holographic sights like the EOTech and others.

Unlike night vision my made up red dot sights have no ranking as my second generation dots are arguably better than generation 3 ones. Argue on I say.

The Falcon is a much sought after sight and you'll sell it here at our equipment exchange fairly quickly I dare say ... and at a possible profit I'll guess if it doesn't meet your needs.

Is a 2003 Ford Excort better than a 1953 Thunderbird because it's 50 years newer?

What is an ELBIT Falcon and where do you purchase one?

There are a few members here with them - back four or five years ago when I was still on the e-mail list they were the rage. I think member Chuck has one here.

I got it on the EE here and for less than I thought they went for.

I hear the Eotech can put a red glow on your face, and the Aimpoint still doesn't adjust automaticly. I really like the idea that if I hear a bump in the night, and lets say if I spot a suspicious shadow, get a dim dot on the target and after I light it up, I'm looking at a blazing dot. Or targeting from a dim area into a bright area, or transitioning etc, the brightness really does not require attention.

Also, the forward mount only fits a pencil barrel, but  you will notice some have a forward mount which attaches to the sight tower on m4/carbines. Any idea where to get one?
