I want to get a back up reflex site.
Which would you chose and why?

Dr Optic is made of aluminum and glass.  The Optima was made of plastic.  I suggest a milspec Dr Optic.

You cant hit jack with the irons.  Its worse than using the irons on a .38 snubby.

You can't hit jack with your irons? Sheesh.... lose the optics and practice. Its the one thing that will always work.

Aight I stand corrected. Sorry bout that.

However, if you can't hit jack with your REAL irons you shouldn't be handling a rifle! [:p]

devL's referring to the irons on top of the optic, not the rifle's irons.  HUGE aperture and wide front sight blade with a 6" sight radius - they shoulda just put regular pistol sights on top of the NSN, IMHO.
cheers,
MM

Devil means the irons on top of the scope.

How much is this Dr Optic anyway?

I think I paid right around $300 for my Dr Optics.

$265 + the weaver mount I had to buy was right about $300. That sounds just about right.

Buy the excellent Docter sight from C4, he's a great guy.  You have to get the mount from www.specwargear.com and click on Sale on the left window pane, they make them in batches.  They're sold out presently, don't email them but check their website periodically, if you email them about it they'll just tell you to email back later, morons.

Dr. Optic on an ACOG. Why? because ARFcom member FREEFALLE6 used that set-up on his issued rig on tour in Afganistan.!!

Combat proven.

Friends,
Now here is the thing.
I get that Dr Optic is the way to go, but that seems a steep price. I mean I could get a EOTech or aimpoint for that money, see what I'm saying.
Why get this little Dr Optic?
Spooge5150 Out!

Notack:
That is a very strong reason!
See: Everyday there is someone who let's me know they are smarter than me. Thank You!

Hold the phone! Doesn't FREEFALLE6 use a Optima 2000?

How do you suppose you would mount an Eotech on top of your ACOG? [>:/]

Size does not matter when it comes to electronics.  In fact you often pay more for items that are smaller like a lsptop vs a regular computer, etc.

The Dr Optic military unit is water proof the Optima is NOT.  The Dr Optic has a built in crude rear iron sight the Optima does not.

Oh very funny! [rolleyes]

Ok Devil nice and slow: I could have the option of switching between the two.

Ignorance warning: would the Dr.Optic work just as well on a Ta01 as a Ta01-NSN, and use the same mount?

No.
The NSN has the rear ghost ring that is clamped into two screw holes. The TA01 doesn't have these holes to receive the mount for the Dr Optic as it doesn't have the rear ghost ring.

I agree I would have bought a DR but at the time I couldnt afford it. Well my optima did fine in Afganistan but you would be better off getting the Dr optic.

Free, at what range did you sight it in for?
Did it wash out in daylight?
Ever bump it?

Yea I would zero it in our hut with our bore laser and confirm zero at 25M. Yea she got bumped quite a bit, getting in and out of the hmmv's etc..if she took a bad bump the zero would be affected but no so bad as You couldnt hit a man at 25M. the only bad thing was the dot would wash out a little during very bright days mostly due to being in desert/ mountain terrain.

Heres a pic of my combat Acog. Its not a good pic, I took it off for cleaning

I'd rather have the Ta31 than an 01, but I figure if a used 01 is cheap enough, I can have both :)

Well after much thought, I'm going to skip the back up Reflex and just use that money toward a TA31F.
I like the idea of having both scopes, as I have two AR's.
Well just two for now.  [;)]
