I have a shorty AR15 that I want to put a compact acog on. I found one today at a local gun shop. It is the TA 44-5....1.5 x 16 with the amber dot. They are asking $686 for the scope. I know swfa and many others advertise them cheaper but have no clue when they will be in. Is this scope decent for CQB and shots to 150 yards? I really wanted the 1.5 x 24 but they don't have. Should I be patience and wait for a different model or grab this one up?

Thanks

Wait for the one you want. And yes, you can use the 1.5x from 1 to 150 meters.

When you spend that kind of money you need to wait for the model you want, if not you will piss and moan and probably sell the scope for a loss.

I would recommend you look at 2x or even 3x for Compact ACOGs.

The BAC will work fine in CQB. I would get 2x if you are going to use it to 200 meters.

I'm really happy with my 2x20 on a TA60 mount.

innocent_bystander, you wouldn't happen to be mounting your 2x20 ACOG/TA60 forward of an ARMS #40, would you???

If so, do you have any problems with eye relief?

Thanks.

Thanks guys....I will wait and get what I really want. I think now I will look at the 2 x 20 acogs. Any of these better for what I need?

Thanks again

It's mounted forward of a GGG MAD buis. I think my ARMS #40 would fit there too. I have my ARMS #40 behind an Aimpoint on another rifle. All my ARs have A1 stocks.

Innocent_bystander, you are in a unique position to help me decide, once & for all, which ACOG set up is going to grace my flat top 20", with an ARMS #40 & an A1 stock.

Thus, I would appreciated it greatly if you could do me a small favor.  Could you please temporarily mount your 2x20 ACOG/TA60 combo on your other AR (the one with the ARMS #40 installed), and see if the eye relief is usable with this set up?

I very much want to go with this set up, but my concern is that with the ARMS #40 installed, the TA60 does not place the ACOG close enough to the eye for it to be useful.

I would love a first hand experience with this issue, before I spend a lot of $$$.

Thanks ahead of time.

just my .02 for what it's worth; i bought a TA44R-2, 1x16 red triangle. great scope BUT i think from distances of 0 to 100 yards i like the aimpoint 4 MOA better. up close the aimpoint is way faster and the transition to 100 yards takes more time with the compact acog. of course this was my first time shooting the compact's impression. i have not been out since with the ta44. i just dont see much of a improvment with the compact acog. now out to 150 or 200 the compact may prove itself but i may end up selling the tiny acog, interested? YMMV.

I can't move my 2x20 until after Saturday. I have a match Saturday and while I think the TA60 will re-zero, I don't want to test it. I wish that ARMS would come out with a mount for the mini ACOGs.

My four ARs are set up:

BM M4 barrel, flat-top, 2x20 mini ACOG, TA60, GGG MAD, BM lower, A1 stock

BM M4 barrel, flat-top, Aimpoint, ARMS M68 w/spacer, ARMS #40, BM lower, A1 stock

BM 20" A2 barrel, flat-top, Elcan, BM lower, A1 stock

DPMS M4 barrel, flat-top, DPMS buis, Cav Arms lower shortened to A1 length, no optics yet

Mr.H.....E-mail me at [email protected] about your ACOG. I might be interested. I can't get the mail to work here.

innocent_bystander, good luck with your match.

I will catch up with you early next week for the answer to my $64K question!

Thanks again.

If I were going to give up the unlimited eye relief and zero palallax of a red dot, I'd want more power than 1.5x in the tradeoff.  I'm trying to decide between a 3x Compact and 4x TA31 myself.

Innocent_bystander, how did your match go & do you happen to have the 411 on that question I asked you???

Thanks.

Yes, it will clear by about 1/8"

Missed the match to take my wife's truck to have the brakes done.

innocent_bystander...

I don't think I'm being clear about what info I am looking for. My question was about eye relief (i.e. the distance between your eye and the eye piece.)

My concern is that with the ARMS #40 installed, the TA60 does not place the ACOG close enough to the eye for it to be useful.

The 2x20 gives you plenty of eye relief and there is clearence over the ARMS #40 to back things up. The 3x mini ACOG has very short eye relief. There might be problems with it.

The 3X was a bit too short for me.  However I get closer to all scopes than most people for whatever reason.  If you are like me the 2X will work perfectly but the 3X is just a tad too short.
