Just got a couple sent over.  The tip was tested at RHC 48-49.  The first pic compares the M855A1 for size.  The last pic (mid-grind) shows the outer jacket and how its separated from the rear solid copper core.

nice section! Glad to see my hardness results were the same as yours. As far as material makeup:

Fe – 99.18%

Mn – 0.664%

Zn – 0.164%

Have you tested the hardness of M855A1?

My experience with M855A1 at AT this summer was that it is incredibly accurate and flat shooting.

Is it just me... or does that look like considerably better "fit" between the various components then the M855 bullet.

I have some of these that I need to reload, hopefully accuracy will be improved as a result of tighter fit.

Should have mentioned that these are supposed to be sloppy seconds from factory, both the M80A1 and the M855A1's.  A separate company was selling them (M80A1) by the 100 pack as blemished, some with cannalures and some with out.  From what I heard is that most where perfect to the eye.   To hard to find the real thing out of military stock, even with the good contacts that I have.

Notice that the M80A1 steel core differs from the M855A1 for a tight fit on the cannalure.  The M855A1 core is notched to accept case crimp.

All of these projectiles are built and held together with love,  They are non bonded and you would think it would cause problems with rotational drift if spinning loose inside?
