Who manufactured the barrel ? It is almost certain if it is stamped .223, that is all you should attempt to shoot through it.

5.56 runs higher pressures than 223.

It is a DPMS 20" 1/8 twist.

The barrel just says 223, I assume rem.

Quoted: The barrel just says 223, I assume rem. I'm not a DPMS expert, but it sounds like you have a .223 chambered barrel. I would not shoot 5.56 through it. Although I've yet to see a single case where shooting 5.56 in a .223 barrel ended badly. YMMV |

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but my question is along the same idea. I also have a DPMS. Where on the barrel would this be stamped? On my lower, there is a 5.56/.223 stamp. Since I bought the rifle as a whole, I assume this means the barrel is as well, but where would I look on the barrel itself?

Look for a stamping on the barrel, forward of the front sight base.

Irgrunt, based on the 1/8 info, is it a stainless steel barrel?
