So I bought so 75 gr TAP FPD the black box .223 because I got it way cheep. So I have Federal 55 gr LE223T1 in my AR now for home defense.  Never shot the 75 gr TAP.  I know the 5.56 T2 TAP is better but they had none in.  What you ammo guys think. TAP FPD as good as the Federal LE223T1 or should I juts shoot it up and stick with the Federal.

I would be a little concerned with overpenetration, with the 55 gr. load. The LE223T1 is loaded with the 55 gr. Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bullet. Its a bonded bullet, designed to hold together while shooting through things.

LE223T1 is considered a barrier round.

I keep a mag of LE223T3 for barriers and have the rifle loaded with 5.56 75 grain TAP.  I would suggest you do baisically the same.  The Federal Tactical produces much smaller wounds but is an excellent barrier round.

I know you already said you have both, but in ARFCOM tradition, I still have to say "Get both!"

The defensive ammo choices write up tacked at the top of this forum basically says they are both GTG.

Sounds good thanks guys.  Maybe Ill just shoot up the 223 75 TAP FPD and get 5.56 75 gr TAP to replace it.

IMHO Dont bother going through the trouble of trying to get the 5.56 stuff. Basically the FPD will do everything the 5.56 stuff will do.

Not if you have a 10.5" barrel.  5.56 pressure is especially important for SBRs.

I am running two rifles a 14.5 Colt 6921 for patrol and a 16.1 Colt 6920 for home defense.
The 55 gr Federal LE223T1 is department issue for the 6921 so I can't change ammo on that one.

True, forgot about SBRs

A 6921 should be runnig the 62gr #LE223T3 but some "expert" probably made that call
As others have said the Fed stuff is a barrier round and should be used in that capacity
