Since I bought all they had during the infamousWalMart Ammo Buy!  There is still the section on the shelf for them...just no new boxes.

Funny thing...went in last night after work 11pm-ish and I hear from behind a womans voice, "...you back for more ammo?"  I turn and its the cashier who helped me during the ammo buy-out in Nov.  I smile and say, "...Yeah".  She asks, "...did you get anything?"  I look puzzled and she continues, "..you know hunting?"  I say, "...Oh...no...I don't hunt."  She looks slightly confused but shrugs.  Ended up she was helpful with some other stuff I was looking for....

That's how most of the Walmart employees are at my stores, except for the guy that sells the ammo.  I guess he tries to stay on everyone's good side.

I was doing the same thing down here at the 3 wally worlds by me . The one thats the closest to me raised the price on the WWB 40 pack to $11.73. The other two stores have yet to raise the price. They asked me once ( I got 18 boxs that day ) if I was doing a lot of hunting  I said no I just have a hungery AR.

Kinda off topic, but before the last hurricane that wasn't a greek number, I went to wally world and bought a bunch of buck and slugs for my shotty.  The next guy in line asked me if I was going hunting, and I just said "no."  The expression on his face was priceless.  I'll never forget it, almost like he expected an explanation for my previous statement.

I did that when picking up my last batch of 480 rounds of .223 55 fmj during the amo buy-out.  The sales clerk says, "...going hunting?"  I look at her expressionless and a looong pause and say, "...OK."  Got a kick out of it.  Same girl I spoke with last night....

My WallyWorld finally had some!!

After checking everytime I visited, they had some on the shelf!!

No "spot" for it or pricing on the shelf but it was 7.73 each..

I asked how many boxes were there, and he said "quite a few"..

He started to take them from the shelf and there were 7

Of course I bought them all and made sure they scanned the code in to get some more coming..

When it warms up a tad I shall "plink em up"

My local store also carries Remington 223 (20) round boxes.  2 boxes together come close to the cost of the 40 round WWB.  No personal experience with that ammo though.

Check the price on the 50 round boxed stuff too.  IIRC its like 4.88/box around here, which works out to $9.76/100.  Cheaper than the $11.34/100 that the valuepacks cost.

Edit:  These are local Texas prices.

woah, you need to let me send you a money order to go buy me a bunch for $9.76 for 100 rounds.

WALMART WWB

40 x .223 (55grFMJ))  =   $7.73
100 x 9mm (115grFMJ)=  $11.34
100 x .45ACP (230grFMJ)=   $19.97

Don't forget the 40 x .223 (45grJHP) that everyone seems to confuse with the 55grFMJ.  It goes for around $13/box.  Decent varmit round.

SAY WHAT?  That is 9.8 cents per round.  I would buy all the brass cased factory .223 I could find at that price.

I have been buying the WWB bulk 40rd boxes for $7.73 here too. I looked at the Remington they had- 20 rounds for $4.88 and it looks like factory reloaded ammo. The cases look to have been once fired.
Anyone else notice this?

They have a BUNCH at the one in sharonville, OH (north Cincinnati)

I am assuming this is not 5.56 pressure, it has no NATO headstamp and the product number is USA223R1VP     Lot#WG40        not  Q3131A

I stopped by walmart a couple nights ago and as usual checked for 223 wwb, but they haven't had any 55grfmj for several months at any stores near me.  I was surprised that they had several boxes this time.  I asked to check the price because they didn't have a regular 'spot' or sticker for them and they were the $7.73 stuff.  Just got one cause that's all I had money for at the time.

I have bought the cheap remington stuff before but I don't like them.  The price is good, but I've had a 2-3 blown primers out of maybe 60 or 80 rounds.  Never had a problem with the WWB.  I think the remingtons are not once fired, but not sure.  I think that they just don't polish them like most other products.

I've been cleaning out the Wal-Marts near where I live (north Austin and Round Rock) whenever they get any.  Bought 10 40rd Value Packs for $7.73 each yesterday from the RR store.  Seems like they have been doing a pretty decent job of re-stocking it lately, I've been able to find at least 5 or 6 boxes worth every week at least at one or the other of the two stores I usually check.

The 45gr Varmint ammo around here is also usually a 40rd box, but it is almost twice as big as the 55gr box (it has fancier packaging).  The 45gr stuff is over $13 for a 40 round box.  The only 50 round boxes that they have at the Wal-Marts here are as others have noted, 9mm and 45 ACP.  I'm in central Texas (north Austin area).

5 locations...  that would be Urbandale, SE 14th DSM, Altoona, Ankeny and Ames?  Have you tried some of the more podunk towns like Indianola, Pella, Newton or Boone?  Unless they've got a lot in stock or you are going to be near them it probably isn't worth the gas to drive...  and you'd definitely want to call ahead to see if they have any...

Hard to believe there are so few Wal-Marts around there.  Didn't realize until I moved down here how sparse it was, I've got at least 9 or 10 Wal-Marts within a 30 minute drive of me here...

Shot my first batch of Winchester, USA223R1VP from WalMart.  The 40 round box was $7.73 w/o tax in Peoria, AZ.  Bought a case of 400.  Lot number wk22.

Only ran four over the ShootingChrony since I was out for other reasons:
  3212, 3202, 3245, 3198 fps.

Hollinger 20" DCM upper, 1:7 Pac-Nor barrel, with Tubbs CWS, shot number 5-9 on the day.  Temp 68-72 degrees.

For MP906:
I noticed that the bullets are not very consistent on cannelure placement.  The two bullets I pulled were legit 55FMJ (not nessesarily Mil-Spec), but the cannelure band varied 0.013" measured from the base of the bullets.  Not the most awe inspiring when inspected, funny dark colors on some.  Mexican match with new Sierra 55FMJ might work if the accuracy isn't there.

On target, I ran ~15 into one raged hole at 25 yards (like I said, I was out for other reasons).  One round went high and left outside the group.  The goal wasn't group size, it was function, the flier was probably me getting in the spirit.  Of the twenty USA223R1VP shot, all functioned properly.  Cases looked OK, primer sealant dislodged from firing, but primer intact.

FYI, the sealant is very weak against solvents.

Wow - that is suprisingly HOT for Winchester white box .223.   You have a very slick barrel with a tight chamber... I am thinking, to get those speeds.... or Winchester is loading some lots hotter these days.  Most have seen 3000 to 3100 max on these rounds.  Those are M193 muzzle velocities.

Yeap the velocity seems high, well that's because I'm braindead.  This data came from a 24" CZ varmint gun.  That's what you get for posting at early morning hours.  The rifle in question was used to make sure the stuff was safe (in a bolt gun) before stuffing it in a gas gun.

The CZ is the Kevlar Varmint model in 1:12" twist.  The barrel is 24" and not the fine 20" Pac-Nor on the DCM gun.

Sorry guys,
