I have to zero in my A2 and I have a limited supply of M193 but a good supply of American Eagle 223 ammo. I was thinking I should zero the weapon with the M193 and then just plink with the AE. However, can I zero the rifle with the AE 223 ammo so I can conserve the M193 ammo and have the same results?

I rezeroed my 6520 upper last weekend with LC XM193 using the 50 yd zero method. Then I shot with some American Eagle 55 gr, some SS109, and some Mk 262 Mod1. The American Eagle and Mk 262 printed just about the same at 50 yds as the Xm193. The SS109 was a little off though. I also shot at 100 yds with roughly the same results. I wasn't able to shoot at 200 though.

They should be fairly close at 50 yards, but every barrel is different, and you may have one with certain characteristics that cause large differences in POI with those two loads (or any other two loads). It happens.

Keep in mind that the 200 fps difference in muzzle velocity means that down-range trajectory will diverge quickly after about 200m, with the AE dropping at a faster rate.

Very good point regading the down range velocities. As i said, I only zeroed at 50 and shot at 100 so there wasn't really an opportunity for that to factor in as much as shooting at 200, 300, etc would provide.

Shooting from prone using the mag as a monopod, I can't see any significant difference among the POIs of any of the 55gr stuff I've shot at 50 yards. That includes XM193, AE223, UMC .223, and some others.

The .223 does hit a little lower at 240 yards, compared to the XM193, though, but you'd expect that.
