The Marines do...

For that range, houwever, 77 or 75gr is MUCH better...

Yes, we do.

If I do my part, I can hit a man sized target every time at 500 yards using a M16a2 and M855.
It's not easy being an expert rifleman.

I've never had the chance to try a 500 yard shot, but I know that M855 is much more accurate out of my guns than xm193.  IMI M855 is really good stuff.  I haven't tried LC.

Anyone got any tips on mail ordering IMI M855 cheaper than Northwest Loading Supply?  They're the only place I see it at, and it's $340 for a carton of 1200 rounds (in 30 round boxes).

Natchez Shooter Supply has XM855

They are fair on shipping charges

Don't get me wrong...

M855 is more accurate out of my guns, but I still load XM193 for defensive purposes.

M855 does what it designed to do " Shoot M.O.M " out to 500m+. It isn't match ammo and from my experience it will to some wild shit at 500-600 yds if you have a bad lot with offcenter pen tips...Having shot k's of rounds of LC M193/855 mostly at 2 and 300 yds for HP practice , M193 shoots better more consistent groups than M855 for me .

Because of its lower density due to the steel penetrator, the 62gr M855 bullet has a disproportionally high BC vs. its mass of 0.324, whereas 55gr M193 is only 0.260.   To compare, the 68gr Hornady only has a BC of 0.355.

Because of M855's decent BC and high velocity, it actually has less drop than the heavier bullets at long range.

I realize this doesn't directly address accuracy.  The IMI M855 has been pretty accurate for me, however. (ie, 1MOA)

like the other Marines on the board. ive fired a lot of M855 at 500m it does quite well. if you can get some spanish santa barbara SS109 i have found this to be near match quality. out of my Colt MT6601 it groups just as well as black hills for half the price!!!

I'm building a rifle (with a 10x scope). Any chance of 8" groups at 500yds.

For the gun? Yes...

Folks do 10-12" groups at 600yds with carry-handle irons...

So 8" at 500 with a scope should be doable...

For mil-issue ammo? NO.

The above results assume 77gr or heavier match-grade open-tip bullets.

(Match rounds have a 'hollow' point do the manufacturing process and the extra stability caused by having a rearward center-of-gravity, they are not designed for expansion/fragmentation, and are thus technically not JHP)
