hell,

i'm going coyote hunting for the fist time in the near future.  i'm using a 20" AR with a 1-9 twist.  In TN, it is illeagal to hunt with FMJ ammo, so what else is there?  hollow point?  ballistic tip?  i was thinking about the walmart winny varmit value pack, but i just don't know.  Any guidance?

thanks

A coyotee isn't all that big.  I'm using a 55 grain winchester power point but I'm sure the 64 grain PP or the varmit value pack you mention would probably work fine.

I use "Coyotee" 3D reman. (Hornady) 55grn spire points. I don't know if you can find it anymore, I think I got it from Natchezs a couple years ago. Pretty much any 55grn SP/ballistic tip loads will do "OK", and 55grn loads usually are less expensive. I would like to try some Black Hills 68 or 69 grn, but I'm to cheap.

The Winchester 45 grain HP's are deadly on coyotes. UMC also makes a 45 grain HP that is working good in my AR-15.

Good luck on your hunt

I'm a big fan of Nosler Ballistic tips. I use a .243 primarily on Coyotes, but the .223 works well, also. A very accurate, and hard hitting bullet.

The WalMart value pack 45gr Winchester is an outstanding Coyote round.

I like using the 55gr Hornady Vmax
although XM193 works good too!
