I just finnished reading Black Hawk Down. In the book MSG Howe said his m-4 with ss-109 did not stop or put down the somalis. Do they still use ss-109 in m-4's or do they use some thing else?
Thanks Mark

In short, for special forces at least, they have found that the heavier match rounds such as the 75gr Hornady BTHP, and the Sierra and Nosler 77gr BTHP (Open Tip Match rounds all three) perform much better out the M4. For general use (regular Army units and Rangers, however, I'm pretty sure that they still issue M855 for the M4).

The BlackHawk Down quote, however, has been exagerated to death. If Sgt. Howe was using a 11.5" CAR-15 (as opposed to the 14.5" M4) the problems would have been worse. If you haven't read the Oracle, please do so, it explains the situation quite well...
