Is the rifle marked 5.56 or .223? What model DPMS is it? I don't know, but I'd sure be willing to bet that your dpms will run military 5.56 like a champ. DPMS has a section here under "Industry" or if you are concerned about it you could call them and ask whether the rifle can use 5.56.

Unfortunately I don't know of any good, cheap military surplus 5.56 anymore. South african was the ammo most people were shooting, but it has dried up. I shot a bunch of Guatamalen that was okay also, but can't find anymore of it.

m193 is probably going to run you around $ 200/1000. Below that price level there is no ammo that you are going to get a 100% recommendation on.

I have shot Wolf (steel cased Russian ammo) with no problems, but it's not real accurate and some people have problems with it. At best it's fun blasting ammo that is not very accurate.

Olympic (greek) ammo has had some quality control problems, one of our members found some of the ammo to be out of spec. Sellior and Bellot seems popular, though I have only shot a few hundred rounds of it. There is a recent post by someone here of primers blowing out with S&B and I do remember reports of problems with some of their other rifle ammo in the past.

193 is fun stuff, loud and I was shocked the first time I saw the muzzle flash out of my post ban gun which has no flash hider. I was firing prone and thought I was going to set the grass on fire! [8)]
