Only differences are no hole for gas tube, short dust cover and and plastic gas deflector (except discontinued Spikes upper). Up to you whether those are of benefit or not. Many here have 9mm with standard uppers. I built mine with an Vltor without forward assist, I think it's better. Mine is suppressed and never had any issues with blowback, even shooting left-handed.

I had both at the same time on two different rifles of course. I can't say one was any different than the other. Of course the FA is useless but its there. As for the one with the gas deflector, I ran it with and without and could never tell a difference. YMMV

Upper' only purpose is to provide runway for bolt to cycle back/forth, hold barrel at front, and sit on lower so hammer can hit fire pin and mag feed cartridges to chamber..
Use any AR-15/M16 upper you choose |
