Does anyone know what needs to be done to make these work in a 9mm Colt AR, Tapco has them for 9.99.

Thanks
Paul

I ordered a couple and they should be in today. I wanted to see for myself what might be necessary. I'll try to remember to post something. UPS says they were just delivered

I just modified one mag -- these will only work in the same setup as the sten mags. I believe they are way too wide to fit in a Colt/Uzi magblock.

The magazine is too wide to fit in the AR magwell so must be squeezed in a vise to re-size from 0.975" to 0.970" wide. the front and rear tabs (you'll know what I mean when you get one) need to be ground down a little to get the front to rear length down to around [s]0.632"[/s] (OOPS) 1.632". The magazine is a double stack/double feed but works fine in my sten mag conversion setup. My front to back measurement may be a little different that somebody elses sten steup so best to do trial and error type fitting. I cut the mag catch notch the same as I would in a sten mag. By the way -- these mags look unused!

Hmm!  Do they fit/function just like the Stens?  Meaning, you can use EITHER Stens OR Suomi mags?

(possibility of welding a Suomi feed tower to a Suomi 71 round drum, and using it in the Sten system)

This is a rear picture of a modified sten mag on the left, an unmodified Suomi mag in the middle and my modified one on the right.

AR-fan,

Email me the pics!!! Sending a blank your way, if you don't have the addy....  Your pics aren't showing and the link says "forbidden".

The Cav Arms lower is a tad bit wider then the traditional aluminum lower...so maybe a slight "push" they'll fit.

Damn it Gloftoe!  You got me wondering again!  It would be legal.  As both were ment for the same weopon.  Just when I thought I'd start to pay off by debt....

Time for some RnD now...

With the slight modification of the Suomi 36 round mag, they seem to work just fine in the same setup I use for my 32 round Sten mags. They seem to be interchangeable.

Gloftoe, I ordered two of the 36 round mags AND 2 of the Suomi Drum Mags -- hmmmm, I wonder what I was thinking. Could there be a 9mm drum mag in my future?

Kaliburz, If the mag doesn't fit (side to side) giving them a little squeez in a vise doesn't seem to have any affect on the follower inside! by the way, the squeezing only has to be done on the section that goes into the AR Magwell.

With squeezing it, and grinding the tabs on the front and rear, I wonder if the mag would still fit properly into a Suomi?

Will these work in a Sten MAC? Anyone tried that? I realize the lips might have to be closed up a bit for the single feed bolt on the M11/9.

Gloftoe, sqeezing the mag can be undone but they are only squeezed 0.005". The main tabs are still there, the small catch is still on the rear only not as deep and the only missing piece is a small guide tab on the front that can be added back on with a small bit of weld.

The upper pictures are the fronts, modified on the right.
The lower pictures are the backs, modified on the right.
