I took my 15 yr old green CHRONY out today, and fired some 9mm, 45, and 223 across it. I'll try to stay on the simple side.

9mm, used Win 115 value pack, some S&B I pick up off the range, Wolf, 147 reloads with #5 and 3N37.
Gun used was my Uzi, 10.25 and 16" pipes. Averages as follows:

Win 115-- 10"- 1364,  16"- 1398

S&B--- 10"- 1296,   16"- 1330

Wolf--- 16"- 1418, 2 rounds, 3rd was a TCW at 1474

147, 5gr #5-- 10"- 873,  16"- 898

147, 5gr 3N37--- 10"- 992,  16"- 1047

Uzi w/45 barrel, 10.25", reloaded Wolf 45acp case, 230 LRN from RCBS mold, wheel weight-

800X, 7.3gr-- 1071 fps--- did have nice bump...

540, 8.3gr-- 1082 fps--- had a firmer bump than the 800X. 540 no longer available, but Hodgdon says HS6 is same product.

I have some loads w/AA-#5, both behind the listed LRN and a SWC, forgot to grab a handfull to test.

These are the numbers I got in my playing around,,,, Your Mileage May Vary..

I'll be the proud new owner of a Chrony soon.
I plan to try out a few 45 ACP loads (including 45 Super) from my 11.5" Oly AR. I'll be sure to share my findings.

Hey Slacker what all is needed to shoot .45 super in a Oly AR. I have a 9mm Colt that I love, and I just picked up a Oly .45 upper that runs great to. Also does any body have any experiance with the Dalphon .45 grease mags that they sell on their web site.
Thanks Paul

I'd be very careful using 45 super in an ar.  This is a straight blow back system and you may be running into serious problems with bulging cases or possibly worse. My $.02

I called Oly to confirm that their uppers will handle 45 Super. They said go for it, no worries.
I've shot a bunch of it from my Oly 45 Upper and inspected each case. No bulged primers or anything. The spent cases looked just like the Regular 45 ACP cases.
I got my ammo (185 gr, 200 gr and 230gr) from www.texas-ammo.com
Matter of fact, I plan to shoot a whitetail with it this coming season.

I built my 45 carbine while employed at Oly Arms with the express purpose of shooting 45 Super from it. It handled it with ease, I built another one for my shooting partner too, they both worked fine. His was a 20 inch, mine a 16 inch.

Yes they do shoot from and open bolt and are direct blow back, and they can ignite a round while out of battery due to the free floating firing pin with no firing pin saftey block.

They use a stiff spring on the firing pin to help control this issue, all I can say is keep them clean and dont shoot them left handed.

One a side note, while I worked in their sales dept;
I lost a sale from a LE department once when one of their left handed officers was struck in the face with bebris from a round that ignited out of battery. They were not impressed to say the least.

Here are some old pics of it, I have gone with a more tact setup now, carbine FIRSH handgaurd, Surefire 6P on bottom front of FIRSH (200 Lumen upgrade on 6P), RRA shorty buttstock, cheap BSA red dot (will be upgraded to something better), etc. Will try and get some pics of it in its present condition.

Here are some chrony numbers I got with 45 Super out the two rifles.

20 inch HB
Hornady 185gr XTP
Triron Brass
Fed 150 primers
Alliant Power Pistol powder 11.5 gr

Avg from 8 shots=1,630fps
(322 fps increase in between 5 inch pistol and 20 inch rifle)

16 inch HB
Hornady 185gr XTP
Triron Brass
Fed 150 primers
Alliant Power Pistol

12.0 grs PP = 1,592fps (6 shot avg)

12.5 grs PP = 1,609fps (6 shot avg)

13.0 grs PP = 1,680fps (6 shot avg)

13.5 grs PP = 1,740fps (6 shot avg)

These numbers are getting a little hot, so I cannot recommend anyone use the data, but thats how far we went in these two Oly carbines and they shot fine, the factory ammo in 185 gr list a velocity of 1,300, aprox what our the first load did in a pistol.
