Some time during the last week, I saw a 9MM mag block that installed from the top of the mag well and the upper held it in place. It looked pretty sturdy, but now I can't seem to find it again. Not sure if I saw it online or in one of the gun rags.

Does anyone recognize what I described?
thanks,

Joe

Yep.  Made by American Spirit Arms and offered through Brownells (among other places) for about $150.  Works well, uses Colt or Colt-style mags, but will not activate bolt stop.  (Although I am working on a mod to allow it to do so.)

Thanks Dedeye,
That would be it. It appears to be a pretty well made piece. Has it worked well?

Let us know how your modification works out.

Joe

It's worked very well so far.  The only thing you may have to do is bend the ejector slightly to the right (as you look down on it) to make sure it gets good contact with the casings as they are held in the bolt face.
