This thread must be kept alive. There's really a lot of interest in AR PDW's now, with all the new offerings from Maxim Defense, Daniel Defense, Springfield Armory, and others. Unfortunately, the thread below has been archived but one can still read it and see the builds, past and new.

Clint... do you want to open it to pistol caliber PDWs like the Flux Defense brace or keep it strictly AR as mentioned?

Strictly AR's would probably be the best.

I built a proof of concept (the least expensive PDW style AR using readily available components)... a 7.5" PSA upper and LAW folding adapter with pistol buffer tube, no brace or blade....about 2" at 50yd... don't remember trying at 100yd... length of pull was nose to charging handle... I opted for a 10.5" for my truck gun

My work in progress:

[#5]
Here's mine.
I have since made a new barrel for it which is alot shorter, still need to put a tri-lug on it and I have a holosun 507c to put on it now. but will likely put a 407c next time I have extra money

chambered in 22 Mamba

Here's a mockup of the next range toy. Will also be chambered in 22 Mamba but gassed for 55gr subs. barrel will be 3.7" with a micro flash can that will just protrude from the rail.

Brace, Buffer and tube will be shortened to UCIW length. have the spring already.

Good looking pics.  Vacillating between Tailhook Mod2 and a skeletonized blade from Team15Tactical on my next build.

I just sold a new Law Tactical folder, PWS buffer tube, and Tailhook Mod 1 a few days ago and I'm already having seller's remorse.
That was a great combo.

Excuse the 10.5 in the picture. I know your looking for the really shorter stuff but I won't go shorter in 5.56. I have in some other calibers. Pictured first is my .300 blk with an 8.3 in bbl and a Dead Air Sandman K, second is my super shorty in .22lr 4 in bbl with a Dead Air Mask, third is the 10.5 in 5.56 with a Dead Air Pyro but gets used with the Sandman K as well.  The latest I just started working on is a 9mm based on the CMMG RDB 8 in barrel.  I have a Dead Air muzzle device on it and plan to get a 9mm can for it at some point. The rail and some other bits will probably change as well I keep working on it.

Do you have a build list or anything you could link me to? I really like that setup and didn't realize .300BLK had piston options. That stock makes me want an SBR'd .300 and I've never really been an SBR fan lol

EDIT: also, how do those CZ sights hold up on an AR? I've thought about picking up those to do the same, wasn't sure if it would work but it appears it will ??

The .300 isn't finished yet, but I'll do a thread when it is. Lots of machining, haha...
PWS has 300blk piston guns/uppers, btw.

The CZ sights are nice and beefy, they would hold up on anything.  They are way low for a regular AR, but work great with the 1/2" higher rail on this gun.

Built a 7.5" 308 with the SLR Rifleworks barrel, key gas block and handguard. It was a bit stout with just an A2 birdcage. Watermelon size fireballs.

The EFAB makes it much more fun
Very little if any flash now and Much more manageable.

My first build.  Silenced and quiet operation was top priority, but duffel bag concealability was a close second.  I found some decent range bags on Ebay, but they had a big red target logo, so I reached out to the seller/mfr directly and requested an unbranded bag.  The bags are d600 and 18" OAL.

it's funny to see people meet RDTCU for the first time in these forums. The excitement in their voice, followed by the deflating realization that he crafts these projects himself and they are literally one-of-a-kind and will never be obtainable.

sorry guys...

But yeah i machined the magwell from billet and bolted it to a chopped 80% lower ~10 years ago, then SBR'd it about 5 years ago and built the bufferless upper.

Alrighty- I am staring a budget/poor man's AR PDW build in 5.56...gatherin parts that I have and seeing what else I need.

I'm looking at the KAK 4.75" barrel...and will use a KAK flash can. I need recommendations on a handguard/rail- the one I have is for a 7" barrel so I think I need a couple inches shorter than that for the 4.75" barrel and flash- and want it to barely stick out from the HG.

Wow. Nice pdw. I find it interesting that you spared no expense on components except on the actually pdw part of it, opting for the SBT instead of the Maxim brace. The SBT version isn't any shorter collapsed than an SBA3, etc, so it's a more expensive, heavier, and less comfortable brace (ie. cheekweld) that doesn't really offer anything an SBA3 doesn't.

Was there a specific reason you opted for the SBPDW that I'm missing?

Heck, for less money than the sbpdw, someone could get a chopped down SBA3 brace with a shorter pdw tube in the form of a CMMG Ripbrace, which offers the benefits of the SBA3, but the shorter length closer to the maxim, for a lower price than the SBPDW.

i got the SBPDW instead of the SBA3 because i liked the look and had a couple SBA3s already. from what i recall, the Maxim brace has proprietary bcg/spring/buffer and i wanted to stick with as many standard components as possible. at the end of the day, i didn't really put a ton of thought into the purchase; the SBPDW looked cool, i think i got a deal on it somewhere, and i like the heft offsetting the weight of my bigass Saker 762 up front.

i do love the look of the chopped down SBA3, and i think that'll be the next pistol build i'll go for.

Only the really short Maxim braces utilize a proprietary bcg, buffer, and spring. My Maxim SCW brace requires it but the longer versions do not.
