I am looking to build or buy my first AR pistol. I want to stick with .556. What is the best barrel length to get. I want it to be reliable. Any recommendations, and good deals for an assembled upper???

I've done quite a few AR pistols over the years.  IMO 11.5 is the most reliable.  A lot of people think 7.5 is the most fun.  I like both but shoot the 11.5 more than the 7.5

I'm a big fan of Aero stuff.  Seems like they have regular sales around the major holidays.

Here's $150 cheaper from PSA, if you decided to go shorter. They don't seem to have their 10.5" config on sale right now, but they do every few weeks.

I went with a 10.5 for my budget pistol build. Works fine with all ammo but Tula steel case. Could be me, I installed the gas block flush against the shoulder. Too lazy to fix it. I barely ever shoot that gun anyways.

I have a Radical 7.5" 5.56 and it runs like a top.  It has a KAK flash can on it.  Zero hiccups.  $279 without CH and BCG.  It has a Law Tactical adapter on it, and serves as my dedicated backpack pistol.  Some will say 10.5" or greater is more reliable (I have a 10.5" pistol as well), and Radical has them as well for the same price.

I like my 10.5" a lot.  Been very reliable thus far.

+1 on the 11.5" barrel.  I built one about a year ago, and its been 100% reliable.  The 11.5" is very handy, and perfect length/weight IMO.  Not too long, not too short.  I'm 6'-0" / 205lbs and its perfect.

I got a deal at PSA for an 8.5" upper.  Added one of their "premium" BCGs and a charging handle and built a stripped lower with one of their on-sale pistol build kits.

It runs like a Swiss watch with Wolf Gold and my assorted bullet weigh handloads.
