Once I do a pistol build, I know I cannot put a stock on the lower. (If I do, I cannot go back)  But is there a max length for the barrel?  Can I put any of my rifle uppers on the stockless lower?

On a registered pistol lower, you can have a stock, as long as the barrel is over 16", and you can go back to pistol/no stock, whenever you want.

No! there is no max length for a pistol.
