This is my first post so please bear with me. I've been kicking around an idea for a 300 blackout based PDW/SBR build under 24 inches overall length (9in AAC or knights barrel/upper). The NEA compact carbine stock (here) looks like it could shave 2 inches off of the OAL but I'm concerned about recoil issues with their modified bolt carrier/buffer assembly. I've never shot the 300 blk. If I try to run this carrier will I get a new addition to my shoulder in the form of a bcg? Will it break my rifle? Will it be as amazing as I dream it to be? I submit to the guru's wisdom. What do you think? Any input (better barrel/upper suggestions, lower suggestions, stock, etc) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Gimpy_AK I stole your pictures since I couldn't find any on NEA's website.

the NEA stock will work with the 300blk round.  with the 9" aac or 9.5" kac upper you should be right around  24".  i have an vltor vis-1 with a noveske 8.2" barrel and with an a2 flash hider and stock collapsed it is right about 23".

Dammit Viper, if you keep posting pics of that sexy bitch, I'm going to have to buy that stock.

I'll be in my bunk.

You could also do one of those LAW folding stock adapters,  It would make it even more compact.

One day I'll stop clicking on some of these threads. It gets too expensive.

That stock would shave what, over 2.5" off my 8.5" 300 blackout SBR?

Maybe it's time to ditch the long rail and Vortex Viper PST to build a more compact PDW?  Mine just looks so bulky compared to 1iviper's.

RickFinsta --- that's exactly how i felt when i saw the Troy trunk monkey guns they showed off at the shot show this year with the NEA stocks ,  i will insert a few more gratuitous pics below for latter

squirrelslayer1 --- that vis has spoiled me , i already want another vis-1 and a vis-2. thanks for getting me hooked

xtremesports1975 --- yours looks good to me  there are alot of short stock options popping up lately.  lwrc also has a stubby carbine stock set up that looks interesting.

my goal was to build an ar pdw that was as short as my 10" sig 556 with the stock folded.  i almost picked up the law adapter but i wanted to be able to fire the gun whether it was collapsed/folded or extended/open.  with a 7" 5.56 upper , mission accomplished.

i actually stumbled into the 300blkout by accident.  i was shooting with some friends and one of them mentioned i had a handful of short 5.56 guns and i should build a short 7.62 gun.  the second gun i wanted was a noveske 12.5" leonidas , i actually bought the lower but sold it to fund other builds.  so i finally put one together

she's such a nice shooter i said i've got to have an sdn-6 for this thing , sadly it's still in nfa jail.  we were shooting again and he say's , that's nice but i meant a 7.62 x 35
so since i already had an sdn-6 coming i built a blackout upper too.  for a minimal increase in length it's ballistics are much better in the short barrel/pdw role.

7" 5.56 and 8.2" 300blk upper's

Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn!

GAAAAAH.

No - must take carbine class, then buy stock.  Take class, THEN buy stock.  Class first.  Class first. Class first....

Houston Armory 6" barrel also had Marvin Pitts dimble it also. Suppressor is a Innovative Arms "Deception"
Honey Badger needs to watch out because the Wolverine is coming after it.

What rail is this?

Adams arms piston 7.5" PDW Elite converted to 8.2" 300BLK noveske barrel.
Had to open up the gas port and run a lower powered spring, but it functions with factory hornady amax 208gr subsonics, + all of the supersonics.

If I put on of those stocks on my SBR would I need to notify the ATF of the new overall length?
Link Posted: 9/9/2013 9:21:57 PM EDT
[#24]
I doubt it.

It would be about the same as doing a different upper length on the SBR'd lower.

No, you can put a 21 inch barrel on your SBR or a 2 inch. You can change calibers from .223, 300blk or 9mm and not have to say a word to the ATF.

This.

As long as the firearm is not PERMANENTLY modified (or rather, not modified in such a way that it can't be "readily changed back") from the specs listed on the Form 1/Form 4, you're fine.
