If you have the intent to supress it or make it into a SBR then hands down its worth doing over another 5.56.  DSA and Model1 Sales have some very affordable uppers at the moment.

I have no experience with this upper or with the .300 blackout round, but I have heard good reviews on this particular upper.  Hickok45 has some reviews on it on youtube.

Are you looking specifically for the AAC upper or just a complete upper in 300 blackout?

If you're looking just for the AAC brand upper, I think you may have some difficulty finding one for under $1k. I've been trying to locate the 12 inch AAC complete upper and the ones I've found have all been just slightly above $1k.

If you're looking for a complete upper and open to other brands/manufacturers, then you may want to consider looking into Noveske or Core15. But, I think the Noveske upper may exceed your budget of $1k, but core15 has a few options for complete uppers for around $899.

Hope this helps and good luck in your search.

Noveske Rogue Hunters are just above $1k for longer barrels and just under $1k for shorter barrels.  They also come with a 51T hider.

The DSA uppers are the cheapest at about $330 without a BCG and are not free floating.

CMMG has some good choices too.

You could do what I'm doing - build it from parts for a lot less than $1000

Noveske Upper $138
Barrel, gas block and gas tube $270
BCG and CH $120
Troy TRX Viking free float rail $165

About $800 total with shipping and a muzzle device. I'm just taking a BCG and CH out of another gun for now, so I'm only at about $585 total.

With cheaper parts from PSA, it could be done for much less.

I agree, it appears that you can build an upper as cheap or cheaper than you can buy.

However, I do have to point out that your build has left out the most premium part of the Noveske upper,
the barrel.  You will pay $350 to $455 for a Noveske barrel with gas block.

My build:

Spikes Upper  99.95
Spikes 7" BAR Rail 159.95
Spikes BCG 109.95
BCM Gunfighter 44.95
Noveske 8" BBL 350.00
Magpul BUIS ~100.00

Total 864.xx

As said before, it can be done cheaper with cheaper parts. If I really wanted to, I could probably build something similar for about 680

Noveske barrel can be had multiple places for $350. Add $80 to my list. Bingo!
