Put a 4X "retro" Colt style optic and it just didnt "look right". Irons rule the day for this old 0311 LOL.

I really like the carry handle AR10 or LR308, but the CH upper or carry handle is mostly disappeared in the market.

XM177-ish thirty cal, you say? Oh yeah. I haven't done it, but the idea haunts me, and entertains me sometimes while I try to imagine the best way to put it together. I'm not a cloner (and we're talking about a thirty anyway, right?) so the exact details vary, but something between a XM177 to a Menusar to a Heat 733, only in .300 Blackout.
Carry handle upper "of some sort." I'm left eye dominant, so I want me a Brunton bump, which means either an A2 or a C7 upper. .300 Blackout barrel between 10.5" and 12.5", front sight tower, delta ring and carbine handguards (with a low pro gas block at pistol gas length, of course). Run it exclusively with Blackout supers. I just think it would be a super cool little blaster. |

Dissys and XM177s are kewl until you get older and need optics. At that point flat top dissys and XM177 are kewl. Extra kewl points if you can easily swap between a moderator and a suppressor especially in bigger calibers where subsonics are a thing.

View Quote I have an A1 upper enroute to do just that!! 10.5 .300BO in XM form with my Resonator R2. Gonna hide lopro gas block under carbine HGs & have a clamp on front sight. Only down side is the QD mount may look gooberish without the can. Dont care, its for funsies. |

I've fought an urge for a 300 hamr in such a configuration.

Is the front sight base tall enough to be functional for the .308 size guns? Are you able to get a practical zero?

These were built just prior to my Dad passing away and things have been kinda wonky since. Need to just take some time and go freakin do some shooting. |

Condolences for your loss. I hope you have a fun range trip. Let us know how it shoots.

If I could find an A2 .308 upper I would swap out my shorty upper. Post up pics if you build it. |

Quoted: I turned down a 7.62x39 barrel to .625 and just got it back from ADCO for taper pinning the FSB. It will be my 7.62x39 XM177e2, I was going to do it as an Elisco, but I changed it. I have an A1 80% lower and most of the other parts. It will be a worn finish. Quoted: .1565" of barrel wall? View Quote I think an AK barrel diameter is .5925 past the gas block and gets even thinner at .573 before the muzzle. I think the wall would be .1625 on mine Edit: yep, checked my Romanian AK barrel, it measured at .582. Under the handguards is 1" diameter Edit 2: test fired with an h2 buffer, no problems, didn't get blown up |

Edit: I put mine together with a pin and welded flash hider from JSE ( the only one I could find in 5/8 threads) and mocked it up on another lower for the time being. I'm going to engrave it as an XM177e2. I may SBR it later. It will have the same faux worn finish. The magazine is a Unimag which works great. |

If you SBR it later, Northern Gun Parts sells proper A1 FH's in 5/8-24: https://northerngunparts.com/ar-15m-16a-25slotheattreated-1-1.aspx.
KAK also has an XM177-ish FH: https://kakindustry.com/retro-4-inch-extended-flash-hider. |

And just to muddy waters no one sells receivers that are “slim frame”? Psa is oos ans no one else decided on “standard”
