Yes, they use the same threads. The difference is with the outer diameter of the extension. Mil-spec has the smaller diameter.
Thanks for the education. Since I have neither stock nor buffer tube, which is the preferred? I think I read that mil-spec was better as the threads were rolled onto the tube instead of cut?
I personally prefer mil-spec stocks because of their method of manufacture/material used & there are more stock options for mil-spec extensions. Mil-spec threads are indeed rolled & not cut into the diameter like the commercial. Whether or not mil-spec is better is debatable within some circles. I just use what I prefer & haven't run into a problem yet.
