Can anyone help me ID this barrel?
Stainless 16" HBAR with these markings:

It's Stamped "NBS" and then a 6 pointed star.
Barrel shoots nice but just curious.
I'd like to know twist ratio and whether it's chambered for .223 or 5.56.

I can provide pic if needed. (Although I have no idea how to post a pic here).

Any help\opinions (uh-oh) would be appreciated.

If no one has a positive ID on your barrel, you can determine twist rate by using a tight patch and your cleaning rod.  Mark the rod with tape and measure how far the rod travels from the muzzle until it completes one full turn.  It won't be exact, but it should be close enough to tell you the twist rate.  Oh..be careful not to damage the barrel crown or barrel interior.

Thanks that's a great idea.
Still hoping to I.D the barrel for the chamber type...and just to know what is.

Come on, there's gotta be a few of you AR gurus out there with some thoughts.

dvo,

Your idea worked great. Pretty confident I have a 8:1 twist.

Now if i could only get some info on the chamber size/type...

Bravo you are in fact correct!!!

I looked closer at the barrel and lo and behold it was an "8"!!!

(Gas tube was in the way).

So you think this may be a Wilson barrel? I'll confirm if I can.

Do you know if Wilson use a little star stamp as well?

Thanks a lot for your help.

03/04/06 Addition:
I currently have an email out to Wilson regarding this barrel. I'll also note that older RRA barrel stampings appear to use this marking scheme as well. And I believe that RRA uses Wilson barrels almost exclusively. The Industry thread for RRA has a barrel ID table that might help someone else in the future.

Man ya gotta love the internet for stuff like this...
