 I also shoot 77gr SMKs, but not with those results. My groups are under 1" at 100yds, but just barely. The load still needs some work, I guess. I have the WOA 1/7 SPR profile barrel. 1/8 should do fine with the 77gr bullets. |

I've shot a variety of ammo through my SPR. It has a 20" stainless, fluted Krieger barrel. I shoot this gun primarily at 600 yards. Between what I have shot, the Federal 77grain Gold Medal Match has been the best. I have also shot the federal Gold Medal 69gr, Black Hills 69 grain red box, 77gr Blue Box and the white box 77gr. Federal doesnt make the 77gr GMM anymore, so I will probably stick with the 77gr Black Hills, or the 69 grain federals. Friend of mine has been reloading and getting phenominal groups at 100. He's making some different loads for me that I will try out of mine and see if anything improves.

1.9" at 200 yds with 77gr SMKs is my best. Shot a 20 round 8-9" group (with a few fliers, but the core of the group was 8-9") at 600 yds with 77gr SMKs. |

FYI-i read this on a thread a few months back....dont judge the 77gr groups at 100yds...supposedly it takes at least 200 yds for that bullet to stabalize......+1 for the fed 77gr....ive had really good groups out of it at 200 plus.

The "blue box" Black Hills 69gr and 77 gr are about the same price too.

I shoot the 77gn SMK over a healthy dose of Varget or VV540. I have an 18" SPR upper and a 20" DCM upper. Both barrels are stainless 1/8 twist. With my handloads I'm getting MOA groups at 100, 200, 300, 500, and 600 yards. This is with a scope and a rest for both rifles, that way I know if there's a flyer, it's me and not the rifle or the load.
I put a Jewell trigger in both rifles, and it made a whole huge difference. 1/8 is plenty good for the 77SMK or the 77 Nosler. If you're going to roll your own, the two powders, plus RL15 are the DCM choice for the 77s. The Black Hills load gets the nod, blue or red, for over the counter ammo. Tom

I'm using 77grn Nosler's on top of 24.5grns of Varget, CCI Primers and LC brass. At 100yds I'm averaging 3/8" groups but havent tested it for groups beyond that. This is through my SPR Mk12 Mod0. Through my Mk12 Mod1, I average about 1/2" at 100yds.
Most liturature I have seen says 24.5 of Varget is over the max load, but I see alot of match shooters using it, so work up SLOW. |

I have had good performance with 75gr Hornady TAP, not that great with 77gr BH Match. For some reason mine likes the Hornady TAP.
About 3/4" with the Hornady TAP and about 1 1/4" with the BH 77gr. This is out of a Douglas 18" SPR profile barrel from CLE |

77gr BH Blue box here too. Also had good luck with the Georgia Arms 68gr match load (much less expensive). The 77gr shoot under .5 MOA and the 68gr are just over .5 most of the time out of my Adco built SPR. If I do my part that is.

More often than not I've seen some barrels simpley wont shoot some ammo at all. You always need to find what works for you barrel. Douglas, Krieger, Wilson whatever. I have a friend with a Krieger that wont shoot Sierra 77s, but loves Horandy 75s. |

Black Hills blue box, 69 gr. smk's,75 gr. BTHP, 77 gr. SMK, and Hornady TAP 75 gr. My SPR absolutly loves the BH BB 75's and the TAP, so so with the others.... However my other 1/7 twist rifles,both LMT 16" M4's shoot all of them very well.
Groups on the spr off a bipod at 100 yards are about .75" when I do my part.. I shot a 10 round group today that annilated the X ring of a 8" Shoot and see target at 100 yards.. Can't wait to see what she can do at 600 yards... -sc |

Can someone help me ? I am shooting a 1/7 colt 14.5 inch barrel, what type of ammo is best accuracy wise? regular 55gr ammo, or ss109 type, please help me out here, some friend sold it to me and the barrel was not very accurate at 50 yards, he said that it was because I was using wincester 55 gr. ammo, that i should use SS109 PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not exactly the right thread, but a 1/7 twist barrel is designed for heavier bullets. 55grn ammo was originally issued with rifles that had 1/12 twist rates. 62grn SS109/M855 will shoot better for you. Or the 69-77grn primo stuff these guys have been discussing.

Anyways, back to SPR. They shoot 5.56/.223 correct? Will the rounds still penetrate flesh out to 400 yards? Head? Or just paper?
