I've been away for a while and am looking for an update.  I'm thinking about buying a rifle (CZ 527 Carbine) chambered in 7.62 x 39.   The only problem is that I shot a buddies' 7.62x39 AR.  It really shot great, printing sub 2" groups at 100 yards with Barnhaul (spelling?) ammo.

My questions are:

Are there any decent magazines out there?

Are the current AR uppers .311" or .308" or does it make a difference?

Thanks,
Paul

I can think of no sane reason to own a 7.62x39 AR15....

For those who have a hard time seeing the .223 holes in the target???

I know what lumpy is going to reply...

"I repeat...no sane reason"

In our country 7.62x39 is most popular ammo in semiautomatic rifles.
I have 2 Colt 7.62x39 uppers 16" and 18" flat tops both.
Colt is only manufacturer with chrome lined barrels.
That's the reason why it's my choise in 7.62x39 caliber.
Both runs excellent with every brand of ammo I can get.
Wolf, Tula, Barnaul, Sako, Lapua etc.

Good working magazines are hard to get.
I'm using Franken mags 34 rounders.
I have couple original Colt 7.62x39 9 round magazines but they are crap.

If you really want to go with a 7.62x39, get an AR47 receiver (www.ar47.com) and use stock AK mags.  7.62 mags for the AR suck in general.

Take a look at these Enfields. They have been converted to 7.62x39 and take single stack AK mags.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I don't think that will be a big seller...

You are wrong about 7.62x39 Colt barrel chrome lineing.
I have 2 7.62x39 16" Colt barrels both are chrome lined.
then I have 1 20" same caliber shortened to 18" and that is also chrome lined.
Our AR-15 specialist has confirmed that and that is my opinion also.

If you read that information from "Story of Black rifle II" book, it's incorrect.

True.

I thought about one.... went down to the local pawn shop to see what they had in 303 British.  Nice price range, but funds are spoken for....

Sako92S,

What barrel makings do you have on you Colt?

Just curious.

Are AK's legal in Finland?

Thanks and God bless,

Barrel markings are:
C MP 1/12 7.62x39 in all 3 barrels

AK's are legal here but only in semiautomatic.
Full auto only if you are collector.

I have one Bulgarian Arsenal SAR-M1 in .223 caliber with all evil features.
Price was 495 euros NIB and included: Bayonet, sling, 4 30 rd magazines, magazine pouch,
stripper clips, oil bottle, cleaning equipments.
