I have a Colt 20" HBAR barrel (A2 hider, std front sight) i bought at a gunshow a few years ago, and im still wondering what to do with it. It'll go on my Colt HBAR lower (A2 stock) and RRA A3 upper.

My ideas so far:

- M5 ras + Trijicon for the M16A4 look (easy to put together, but heavy)
- FF handguards and a nice scope (dedicated long range upper)
- turn the bbl down to govt profile and replace the front sight/gas block (gives a lot more options, but time consuming and probably expensive)

ideas?

2 or 3 or a combination of 2 and 3.  See if it is a good shooter first though.  I bet it probably is.

Turn it down and put the RAS on it. Those HBARs are beasts. That said, my Colt HBAR was the nicest AR I've ever had. If they hadn't had big pins on it, I'd still have it.

I turned mine down to .75 behind the hand guards.  Cut it off at 18" and threaded.  Gas port was about .98 and it has not malfed in a few hundred rounds.  The barrel was 49 ounces, now 34 ounces.  Get an A1 stock and you will have a nice handeling rifle.

It's a little heavier than a carbine, but doesn't give up much velocity compared to 20" barrels.  Handles nicely and is easy to keep it on target.  The Mag Pul stock is also very nice on this rifle.

I was thinking about getting an SPR, but this is very similar and accuracy is good enough that I don't think the extra money for a "real"  SPR is worth it.

I just took Colt 20" HBAR upper and put an A3 upper on it, standard no rail free float tube on it (relatively lightweight), railed FSB, bipod stud, bipod and VarixIII scope.  I need to dress it up with BUIS still but I am pleased with it.

FWIW, one of my projects is a BFI HBAR cut to 16 inches, gas port opened to .110". It should function just fine. I'll let ya'll know.

It's now a 18" SPR profile.
