I have a Form 1 pending as I type this... anticipating a July approval. For now all I could post would be a pic of my $200 check to the ATF.
 Once approved, it will be a 9mm AR with a 9" 3-lug barrel and YHM lightweight railed float tube. |

I personally find this very helpful given my lack of NODs. With the naked Mark I eyeball, running the dot at very low settings at night makes it vulnerable to washout when presented with the odd brightly lighted target, whether it's due to changing lighting conditions or firing up the weapon-light. In those cases you can immediately transition to the irons because they are sufficiently back-lighted. If it's too dark to look through the peep just look over it, the dot will still be visible in the upper part of the window. If it's day just look though the peep and use the dot anyway. It's only a hair slower, less if you train this way. It keeps your cheek weld "current" for picking up those odd iron-sighted weapons, too  P.S. sorry for the tangent... P.P.S. I love my SBR! |

Here is an updated pic with the YHM 2 piece handguard and KAC vert grip and panels. Also added an older model of the Bushnell Holosight. This thing is damn accurate at 25m. Those sights are awesome. I think it is finished for now anyway. I need a good flip-up buis though.....

Anyone know to what range the 5.56 is truly an effective round out of a 11.5" barrel? I know it's a CQB length, but what's the longest, reliably terminal shot against a human being you could expect to take with an 11.5" barrel?
You definately lose a lot of the potential gas expansion that a 20" barrel utilizes that gets good long range results. Just curiious if anyone knows how 11.5 stands up at it's best, as far as distance goes. |

16 inch is the least Id go for a ar15 combat rifle, 20inch being ideal. the 10 11 inch are usually for security details that are getting in and out of vehicles all day long in which case the 16 and especially the 20 inch rifles would be a real pain in the ass. Those carrying the sbrs wouldnt tend to be in firefights over a couple hundred yards but rather prolly 50 or so yards in which case i guess the view the quicker handling SBR over the 16 inch carbine. I dunno for sure since ive never shot a SBR or been on a security detail, just from the reports ive read. YMMV

What does one need to do to register a receiver as a SBR? What is the cost? Is it possible to buy a post ban lower and register it a lower receiver? All will be equal in Sept. regarding post ban and preban status.

ATF NFA Info Page...........(Link) Machine Gun/SBR NFA Laws...............(Link) • CLASSES OF NFA WEAPONS If you are new to Class 3 knowing what you can and cannot buy can be confusing. This section will hopefully, help you when you are reading ads in places like Tom Bowers Machinegun Board or the ShotGun News. TRANSFERABLE WEAPONS: These are machineguns, sears, or conversion kits made and registered before May 19, 1986. This is the date that Mclure-Volkmer Act went into effect. Part of that act was the banning of the manufacture of machineguns for individuals. These items may be purchased by anyone who meets the above criteria for ownership. A $200 Transfer Tax applies. CURIO AND RELICS: This a classification of NFA weapons that derive the majority of their value due to age or rarity. Many of the weapons in this classification are WW1 and WW2 original pieces, such as Thompsons, MG42's, Stens, Greaseguns etc. Some states restrict individual ownership of machinguns to C&Rs. If you want to know what guns are on the list you can contact ATF in you city and they will tell you were to call to obtain a copy of the list. These are fully transferable and subject to the $200 transfer tax. If you hold a C&R license or an FFL you can buy these interstate directly, subject to an approved Form 4. PRE-MAY DEALER SAMPLES: These are machineguns that were imported between 1968 and May 18, 1986. The 1968 act made all machineguns imported after 1968 for law enforcement use only. The Mclure-Volmer Act defined these weapons as "Dealer Samples" and allows a Class 3 dealer to keep these weapons if he drops his license. These are desirable to Dealers as it allows them to have a factory original gun, not a conversion he can keep if he drops his licens. Only Class 3 dealers and others with a Special Occupational Tax can buy these weapons. If you are not a dealer you cannot buy a Pre-May dealer Sample gun. POST MAY DEALER SAMPLES: These weapons are very restricted. They can only got to a Law Enforcement Agency, The Military or a Class 3 dealer who has either a request for demonstration or a sale to a qualifying agency or department. They cannot be kept if a dealer drops his license. SHORT BARRELED RIFLE: Basically a rifle with a barrel of less than 16" or an overall lenght of less than 26" with the stock extended if it has a folding stock. These can still be manufactured and are transferable. $200 Transfer Tax applies. SHORT BARREL SHOTGUN: Basically a shotgun with a barrel of less than 18". A good example would be the Benelli Entry Gun with it's barrel of 14". Short barrelled shotguns can still be manufactured and are transferable. $200 Transfer Tax Applies. AOW (ANY OTHER WEAPON): AOW's are a bit tricky. Generally it applies to pistol grip shotguns with barrels below 18", such as the New Model Auto & Burglar we manufacture. You cannot make one from a shotgun originally manufactured with a buttstock, they must be made from either a new reciever that has never been registered as a shotgun with a buttstock or a shotgun that left the factory with a pistol grip only. AOW also applies to the old stuff like H&R Handy Guns, Marbles Gamegetters etc. A new class of AOW's are the semi-auto pistols with front hand grips, such as the H&K SP 89 with the K grip attached or the semi-auto AK's with no buttstock and a forward pistol grip. These can still be manufactured and are transferable. A $5 Transfer Tax applies. DESTRUCTIVE DEVICES (DD'S): This classification is for guns with rifled bores greater than .50" and also includes things like M-79's, M203's, 37MM cannons, 105MM Howitzers etc. These can still be manufactured and are subject to a $200 Transfer Tax. |

DO IT!! I just receiced my LMT 10.5 upper yesterday. It's a thing of beauty. I've been carrying it around the house since the nice man from Fedex dropped it off. Pisses me off that I won't get to try it out this weekend or even next. I can't wait to light up a few hundred.

Quick question for you SBR people. What is it about the short barrels that gets you going? What can the short barrel do that a 16" barrel can't? I know it looks cool and is easier to maneuver around, but a couple inches off the barrel isn't enough for me to give the feds an open invitation to my house. a'ight- got a question- and i very well may have just missed this in the reading. but when building a SBR does it have to be on a preban reciever?- i know this will not be a factor in a month but i just wondered, everyone's pics have flash suppressors and whatnot- so i assume that they can only be built on a preban reciever???
